David Earl Sundstrom, 68, of Hermantown, died from Acute Myeloma Leukemia in his home June 22, 2016, surrounded by his family. He closed his eyes and was taken to Heaven. What a glorious day. David was born March 16, 1948, to Earl and Miriam "Suzie" Sundstrom in Duluth. He graduated from Central High School in 1966. While in high school, Dave purchased a guitar and taught himself to play. He became part of a local band called The Exceptions, performing in Duluth and the surrounding areas. On Nov. 18, 1967, Dave married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Hallio. They were married for 48 years and together raised three children. Dave worked for the Minnesota Highway Department until starting his own siding and roofing business, Sundstrom Construction in 1977. He retired in 2013. Dave was blessed with eight grandchildren and one special great-granddaughter. Dave and Nancy had a cabin on Long Lake in Cotton. In 1999, they purchased a cabin on East Bass, the same lake he grew up on as a child. His favorite memories were spending time with his family at the cabin, four-wheeling, sitting by the fire, playing his guitar, and taking the kids tubing. He was a great fisherman and spent many hours on the lake. Dave attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, Hermantown Community Church, and Salem Covenant Church. He served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Pamela (Keith) Solem, Derek, Julianne (Jim) Grymala; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Hannah, Isabel, Whitney, Alex, Victoria, and Brendan; and great-granddaughter, Leah; sisters, Judy Sundstrom and Linda (Greg) Aune; brother, Jim (Pat) Sundstrom; and several nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
