With a heavy and broken heart our devoted and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather; Great Grandfather Daniel “Dan” Nick went to be with the Lord, January 25, 2018 at the age of 69.
Daniel was born April 21, 1948 to Douglas and Lucille Nick. Daniel attended Duluth Central High in Minnesota and graduated in 1966. He attended University of Minnesota Duluth where he received a degree in the Bachelor of Arts in 1970. The day after graduation he married his sweetheart Kathryn Hendrickson. This is where his journey began… within a month of marriage Daniel entered into the service where he trained as an MP for the Army. He served two years and was honorably discharged after the Vietnam War. During his time overseas Kathryn gave birth to his daughter Kimberly. Coming home Dan was ready to start a career, which he found through Morrison Knudsen (MK) a civil engineering & construction company. Two years later they welcomed their second child, a son Daniel (DJ). After many moves throughout the US Dan climbed the ladder to become the business manager. His final destination was in Pleasanton, Texas.
Dan became an avid runner and participated in many marathons. He even qualified for the Boston Marathon, but did not run due to the unexpected passing of his father. Dan was a hands on devoted father who coached his children’s baseball teams for years. Following them through all of their sports in and out of school, he never missed a game. Dan became a mentor to all of the team’s players in many ways. Even after his children, he was there for everything his grandchildren participated in, and was till the day he passed.
After his twenty plus years with MK, Dan began his second career as the City Manager of Jourdanton, Texas. During his seventeen years in office Dan was on several councils and boards. Dan was instrumental in cultivating relationships with numerous people throughout his life.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Lucille Nick and his father in law Russell Hendrickson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Kathryn (Hendrickson) Nick; son DJ Nick; daughter Kimberly Schuchart and husband Tony; siblings Gary Nick of Minnesota, Nancy Listen and husband Rick of Minnesota, and David Nick and wife Tammy of Boise, Idaho.
