Tom attended and graduated from UMD following high school. He served as a teaching assistant in psychology and worked at UMD in the Student Support Services Department. He and his wife Marilyn (Carr) had two children. They were active members of Lakeview Covenant Church, encouraging and caring for others in many ways. Tom was quick to help those who had needs. Tom and his family moved to Roseville, into Bethel College seminary housing in 1985 where Tom attended and graduated from Bethel Seminary with an advanced degree, preparing for full-time ministry. On Saturday, August 15, 1987, as Tom and his family were moving from the graduate student housing at Bethel to their apartment near his new job in White Bear Lake (at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church), Tom died suddenly. Funeral services were held at Lakeview Covenant Church in Duluth; Tom was interred at Park Hill Cemetery, Duluth. Tom impacted the lives of many friends and acquaintances in a powerful way through his kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion.

Tom and I were friends and maybe it was because he had a 1949 Special Deluxe Plymouth and I had a 1950 Special Deluxe. Both were flat head 6's.
